29 October 2024

Jobs activity subdued as economy softens.

Statistics NZ reports that the unemployment rate rose from 4.4% in the March quarter to 4.6% in the June quarter, continuing the steady increase in unemployment that has been underway since late last year.

There was a very slight decrease (0.5%) in the number of job ads in September, with job ad volumes down 5% quarter-on-quarter and 29% quarter-on-quarter – however, the declines in the last two months are far smaller than those seen earlier this year.

This report uncovers what’s happening across New Zealand, looking at how the workforce has been impacted, the challenges employers face in the current landscape and trends in national recruitment activity.
